latent perimeter

2022

latent perimeter is a performance where time and consciousness intersect with site and my thoughts. a performance where i hung an individual sheet of expired photographic paper every five minutes for two hours, twenty-four sheets in total, upon the fence of my mother’s home in levin. the paper and i moved and stood in front of one another. as i stepped back i was able to take in the colours deepening whilst daylight was fading, forming a soft gradient throughout the images. five-minute intervals, five minutes between. too little time to abandon the work, yet long enough to tire from standing still. i became conscious of the time passing, the minutes to seconds. twenty-four frames, unfixed for the two-hour duration now fixed through chemical. the frames i am now left with are empty and static. all that i can give is a description of a photograph that isn’t there, a story of the external moments that didn’t leave their trace in the physical frame.
